The aim of this competition is to provide the opportunity for members of PSNZ or clubs affiliated to PSNZ to enter an AV competition outside their club competition.
* Closing Date: 1st June 2012 (Friday)
* Entry Fees: $15 for the first sequence and $10 for each additional entry.
* Maximum length of an AV - 5 minutes
* Entrants may put in a maximum of four AV’s. No more than two entries can be made into any one category.
* The entry must be a stand alone digital production, able to be run by clicking on an icon and without the need of the software that first produced it or any other conversion software. Both Apple and PC computers will be available. While you have more options with one of the specialist AV programmes like ProShowGold, Pictures 2 Exe or Fotomagico, it is possible to use cheaper or free software options to create your AV. Other programmes that have been used with varying degrees of success are Windows Moviemaker and iMovie(Mac). A major disadvantage is that if they are saved in standard DVD format, it is then at a lower resolution than is used by the specialist AV programmes.
* Awards: There will be medals for the winners of each category and an overall winner. At the judges’ discretion, those entries which have reached an acceptable standard will receive an acceptance certificate
* Novice Award (New): There will be one award selected by the judges from all the entries. It is open to any entrant who has not received an acceptance or award in any national AV Competition ie Jack Sprosen Memorial Trophy competition or Tauranga AV Salon.
Categories for 2012
1 Theme
This is an AV which develops an idea. Let’s say you choose to do ‘Moods of the Sea’. You may have a series of photos showing the different moods of the sea which have been organised from quiet and peaceful to very stormy. It still has a structure or development of the idea but because it doesn’t have factual detail or specific information it is probably not going to fit into the documentary category.
2 Documentary
An AV with strong factual content, for example about a place or event.
3 Music, Poetry and Song
An AV which clearly illustrates a piece of music, a poem or a song. This may be creative or strongly representational.
4 Fusion (New for 2012)
This category recognises that many cameras now have the facility for taking video clips. There are an increasing number of programmes which allow those video clips to be included into an audio-visual sequence. The AV must be predominately still photos but may include up to three short video clips of no more than 30sec each which fit seamlessly into the sequence. The total combined length of video clips must be no more than 20% of the total programme. The video clips must be spread through the sequence and must not form a continuous video sequence. The judges will be looking for video clips where the action and audio are integrated into the overall sequence and the image quality is at least the same standard as the rest of the AV. NB: AV’s entered into this category will NOT be able to be entered into the Jack Sprosen Memorial Trophy Competition which is for still photographs ONLY.
